Sam Howell named Washington Commanders Starting quarterback
Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera announced that Sam Howell will be the team's starting quarterback for the first game of the regular season.
This decision was not a surprise - the coaching staff initially believed in Howell, and the young point guard could only give the starting spot to experienced backup Jacoby Brissett on his own in case of a failure in training camp.

Jadeveon Clowney signed a one-year contract with the Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens signed outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney to a one-year, $2.5 million contract (up to $6 million with all bonuses).
The Ravens have been actively scouting edge rushers this offseason and have indicated interest in Kyle Van Noy among others.
Clowney will provide Baltimore's defense with needed depth at the position and experience - he's made 43 sacks in his career, while all available outside linebackers on the Ravens' roster have combined to make only 28.5.

Robert Quinn arrested
33-year-old free agent Robert Quinn, who has played for five NFL teams, was arrested by police.
Quinn crashed his pickup truck into 4 cars before punching a woman in the face and fleeing the scene. He was later identified through surveillance cameras.
Quinn has made 102 sacks in his career, starting last season with Chicago and finishing with Philadelphia.

Lions waive Denzel Mims
The Detroit Lions have put receiver Denzel Mims, who was traded from the New York Jets just a month ago for a conditional 6th-round pick (in exchange for a 7th-round pick), on the waiver wire.
Mims showed well in camp, but suffered an ankle injury and injured his hamstring while rehabbing.
