Tom Brady had one of his best statistical seasons of his career in 2020, despite slowly aggravating the injury.
Tom Brady played and was an NFL champion, once again, with a torn left knee ligament.
Brady never ceases to amaze the football world. If playing at 43 years of age wasn't enough, especially at the level he showed, doing so with a torn knee ligament, the medial collateral ligament, is to be applauded.
Brady was the MVP of Super Bowl LV, the fifth time in his career he received the award.
The Tampa Bay Times reported that Brady suffered the ligament tear in the latter part of his final season with the New England Patriots and gradually worsened during his first season with the Buccaneers, although it is notable that his name never appeared on the team's injury list.
Brady underwent surgery to repair the torn ligament in late February after leading the Buccaneers to a 31-9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV.
In what has been the most serious injury of his career, Brady suffered a torn ACL in that same knee in Week 1 of the 2008 season, which he missed entirely.

It was clear to the Tampa Bay coaching staff that Brady wasn't 100 percent, as quarterbacks coach Clyde Christensen confirmed in June, when he said Brady's knee problem was an "uncomfortable and annoying" issue.
"I don't think he was 100 percent last year," according to a conversation he had with Brady on the day of the Super Bowl festivities. "His words, pretty much were 'Hey, I'm going to get my knee fixed and I'm going to be a lot better next season, you're going to be excited about it.'"
On the day of the celebration, Brady talked to Tampa Bay's QB coach and told him he was going to be better in 2021. |
Brady will turn 44 on August 3 and is coming off one of his best seasons in the NFL, with 4,633 yards, the fifth best of his career, and 50 touchdown passes, the most in 21 seasons.
In Super Bowl LV he was named Most Valuable Player and captured his seventh career championship by throwing for 201 yards with 3 touchdown passes in a 31-9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Imagine if Brady played with a torn ligament and managed to win the championship and have outstanding statistics, what he will not be able to achieve now that he is healthy again.
